If someone told you that sitting still in a quiet room could improve your heart health and help you live longer, would you believe them?

It might sound too simple—but science says it’s true.
A groundbreaking Finnish study followed over 2,000 men for more than 20 years and found that those who used a sauna 4 to 7 times a week had a 50% lower risk of dying from heart disease than those who used it just once. Even more astonishing? Their risk of dying from any cause was significantly lower too (PubMed).
Researchers believe the benefits come from what they call “passive cardio.” Sitting in a hot sauna gently raises your heart rate, widens blood vessels, and improves circulation—similar to the effects of moderate exercise. For those who can’t engage in intense workouts, sauna use offers a safe, restorative alternative.
“Sauna bathing may be a valuable lifestyle tool for cardiovascular and overall health,” said Dr. Jari Laukkanen, lead researcher of the Finnish study. “Its effects resemble those of physical activity, without the mechanical stress.”
Another study published in Mayo Clinic Proceedings found that combining regular sauna sessions with exercise resulted in better blood pressure and heart fitness than exercise alone (PMC).
And it’s not just about the heart. Mental health, sleep quality, and even immune function appear to benefit from regular heat exposure. A 2025 review by Health.com highlighted lower anxiety, improved sleep, and pain relief among regular sauna users—even those who went as little as once per month (Health.com).
“It’s like a meditative reset for the nervous system,” one participant shared. “After just 15 minutes, I feel calm, clear, and connected to myself again.”
At unLimited, we believe healing is a full-body experience—and it often starts in the quiet, intentional spaces we give ourselves. The sauna might just be one of those spaces.
Curious to try it? Start small: 10–15 minutes, 2–3 times a week, and always hydrate well.
Already a sauna lover? We’d love to hear how it’s impacted your body, mood, or routine.
